Some exciting news for Workington sports fans.

After some close collaboration between the town’s rugby league side and ourselves the two clubs are delighted to announce that we will play a 20/20 style memorial challenge cricket match in honour Wilf Harrison who is fondly remembered at both clubs.

Wilf’s daughter Kerry, who is now a board member at Workington Town following in her father’s footsteps had the following to say.
‘As part of our ongoing determined efforts to strengthen our sporting links with all sports clubs in the area it is very touching to see two clubs who hold a special place in our families hearts come together to assist each other and above all have some fun, my dad would be very proud to see this joint venture’

It is intended that this will become an annual event and Kristian Moffat, Workington CC chair echoed those thoughts.

‘After a difficult time for both clubs we’re delighted to welcome Workington Town to the club again after they successfully sponsored one of our games last year, and to play in Wilf’s name, a man with strong links to both clubs is an honour and we look forward to a good evening of fun and strengthening our links.

We know there are some keen cricket fans in the Town ranks and there’s certainly some Town diehards in ours so we are really looking forward to getting outside and hopefully testing the Town lads skills in a different arena.

We already have a number of relationships with other local sporting organisations and this is another one we are really pleased to jump into and hopefully grow in the years to come’

The game will take place on Friday 28th August start at 5:30pm. The bar will be open and also available will be Cocktails with Callum to provide some excellent refreshment options.
